Jail and Prison Hotels

prison hotels and jail hotels

Care to stay in a cell on your next trip?

If you’re not looking for luxury in a hotel, why not try one of these unique places that are reconstructed prisons. They all have some pretty unique stories to tell, and many have been left in a rough state so you can feel what prison life was like at one time. Some of these have so rebuilt that they are more like luxury accommodations inside, so check them out if you are hoping for a more rustic experience.

Liberty Hotel
This was an old jail in Boston, but now it’s a swanky hotel that has few signs of its old life except for the rugged stone exterior.

HI Ottawa Jail
This jail-house hostel is not only a budget place to stay, it has a reputation of being haunted. The interior is still very “jail like”, especially the shared dorm rooms.

Karosta Prison
A real Latvian prison, now accommodates travelers instead of convicts. You can even experience their “extreme night” and see the prison through the eyes of a prisoner.

This UK prison looks very stylish and modern inside, but the rooms are still cell-size and a number of jail house accessories are still around in the building.

Old Mount Gambier Gaol
A communal kitchen and cell-like rooms give this Australian gaol a very obvious prison vibe. It’s not too far from Victoria.
